Sexual Trauma

Sexual Trauma can be defined in a variety of ways and often has a lasting effect on one’s life. In fact, trauma is not defined by the event, but rather on how the event has impacted you. After trauma has occurred people go through life feeling and acting differently.  Trauma creates the formation of  negative thoughts about oneself including being worthless, not safe, or not having control. You do not have to continue to live like this. There is an effective and established treatment available which can change your life.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)  is an evidence based therapy for trauma which has been in practice since the 1990’s.  During EMDR, bilateral stimulation (eye movement) is paired with a memory to reduce disturbance and reprocess the memory.  After EMDR has been completed on a certain memory, the result is to feel less emotion around that memory which in turn allows for you to move on with life in a more peaceful, more productive manner.

EMDR is very powerful in reducing trauma; but also works on fears, phobias, sleep issues, pain and self esteem issues.  EMDR is an established treatment that is implemented world wide.  To learn more about EMDR please visit the EMDRIA Website. Lisa is a certified EMDR practitioner.  Becoming certified in EMDR requires additional hours of training and supervision to ensure the clinician has refined their EMDR skills.
